The Imposter

Rain started to pour as Basil chased a mouse through the streets of London. They ran into an alleyway and the mouse jumped up onto the wall. He climbed up it with ease and looked down at Basil. 

"I'll be taking this for now. Don't worry, you'll get it back."

Lightning flashed, and Basil saw the grin that he always wore on the imposters face. 

"Who are you?!" The Mouse Detective shouted. 

The imposter laughed and waved the paper. 

"My good friend, not only will this lead you to Ratigan, but it will lead me to a villain that I have been following. Using you was the only way I could get it."

The smirk had turned into a soft smile. Basil still felt anger boiling inside of him. 

Before he could say anything, the imposter spoke again. 

"I'm afraid that our next meeting will be more confusing. One small detail will tell us apart, but you will have to trust me."

Lighting flashed again and the imposter ran across the rooftops.

The mouse detective didn't bother to hang up his deerskin coat and hat. He was wet to the bone and cold, shivering, he didn't even notice. Basil thought about the imposter. He had worn a black inverness and deerskin hat and a purple necktie, unlike his traditional brown clothing. Did this mean that the imposter was going to look just like him next time they meet? Clothing and all?

Basil clenched and unclenched his fists, picked up his violin, and started to play.
